Born from the Carolina Shore
Some brands are built in boardrooms. Sea Turtle Style was built on a beach — specifically, the sun-bleached shoreline of North Carolina’s Brunswick Islands, where loggerhead sea turtles crawl ashore to lay their nests.
Living near one of the East Coast’s most active sea turtle nesting corridors changes the way you see the world. You start timing your morning walks around nest inventories. You learn to search for the distinctive tracks that nesting turtles leave in the sand and love the small orange nest marking stakes that identify something ancient and miraculous. WHY SEA TURTLES?
Ancient, Resilient, and Worth Fighting For
Sea turtles have navigated the Earth’s oceans for more than 100 million years. They survived the extinction event that wiped out the dinosaurs. They are, by any measure, one of nature’s great success stories — which makes their current vulnerability all the more urgent.
All seven species of sea turtle are now either threatened or endangered, pressed from every direction by habitat loss, plastic pollution, bycatch, and the warming of the oceans they call home. On the nesting shorelines of coastal North Carolina, volunteers work every nesting season to give the next generation of hatchlings a fighting chance.
Sea turtles also serve a vital ecological role: grazing on seagrass beds that shelter juvenile fish, transporting nutrients across ocean zones, and sustaining the biodiversity of the reef systems they inhabit. When we protect sea turtles, we protect the ocean itself.
They are symbols of endurance, wisdom, and the profound patience of the natural world. Only roughly 1 in 1,000 hatchlings will survive to adulthood — which is exactly why the work of protecting nesting habitat matters so much. They deserve our admiration — and our action.
